The fund managers only invests in shares which are undervalued and are very aware of downside risks. A maximum of 25% offshore assets may be held.

Claude van Cuyck

Claude is a CFA with a BCom Honours (with distinction) and 22 years investment experience. He started at Karlein Investments, a small private client portfolio manager, then worked at Sanlam Investment Management as an equity analyst and at Gryphon Asset Management as an analyst and Portfolio Manager. After returning to SIM, Claude managed the Sanlam General Equity unit trust until 2011 when he and Ricco launched SIM Unconstrained Capital Partners. Under his management this fund was consistently in the top quartile of the general equity unit trust category over five years. He also managed the Industrial Unit Trust fund, which won a Raging Bull and S&P awards.


Ricco Friedrich

Ricco co-manages the Sanlam Investment Management Value Fund together with Claude van Cuyck. He co-founded SIM Unconstrained Capital Partners, which merged with SIM Global to form Denker Capital, in 2011. Ricco completed his articles at Grant Thornton in 1998, where after he started his investment career at Franklin Asset Management as an equity analyst. In 1999 Ricco joined SIM (now Sanlam Investments) where he spent two years analysing industrial stocks before taking up the position of head of small caps in 2001. Over the following five years the Sanlam Small Cap Fund won several awards for performance, including Best Performing Equity Unit Trust in South Africa. In 2006 Ricco took over the management of the Sanlam Investment Management Value Fund.
